TFC gifted point on the road
Toronto FC went into (semi) hostile (due to a 1500+ red army) territory and claimed a point from the defending MLS champions. TFC had trouble creating chances as Columbus had our offense contained throughout the match, although the second half showed a lot more promise after a key personnel change. Kevin Harmse filled his quota for bone head moves by conceding a penalty. Granted he made an effort to get out of the way of the ball, the point still ramains that you shouldn’t run around inside the box with your arms flapping about. This is why Andrea Lombardo was never a defender. If it weren’t for a Gino Padula own goal we may not have received the point. Credit goes to DeRo for delivering the difficult ball.
The point is we got a point. And now for some player ratings (after the fold):
Stefan Frei, 6 - Can’t blame him for the PK, saved the game at the end of the second half with a great push over the bar. Hopefully the injury is nothing serious
Greg Sutton (46), 7.5 - Came in off the bench and was tested early, great form. MOM
Sam Cronin, 4 - Okay performance, mostly invisible except for giving Schelotto occasional problems on the wing
Marco Velez, 4 - Still makes me cringe whenever he touches the ball, stayed out of trouble for the most part
Kevin Harmse, 3 - Conceded a penalty with fragrant arm flailing, brutal clearances
Pablo Vitti, 5 - Couldn’t do much being double or triple teamed all night, showed flashes of brilliance. I’m still patient this investment will pay off
Rohan Ricketts, 3 - Did not look match fit or even interested in playing for that matter.
Johann Smith (62), 4 - Good call putting on the fast legs in replace of Rohan, but Smith was sloppy and gave up the ball too much. Tracked better that Ricketts due to his natural athleticism hence the better rating
Jim Brennan, 6 - Solid effort, no offensive flare like last week but did his job as right back
Dwayne De Rosario, 5 - Skied a few balls that could have been solid chances, still a general on the field
Adrian Serioux, 6 - Cleared a lot of Columbus balls, great disruption and distribution
Marvell Wynne, 4 - Made a few good runs, needs to work on his pass accuracy
Chad Barrett, 2 - Trademark hit or miss form was by no means a hit. Barrett looked lost, passes were off the mark, bad positioning and no finish
Danny Dichio (68), 6 - Great first touch, immediately drew defenders away from Vitti, would like to see him go for the net more
