Signings transfers and trialists, oh my!

IN:  Pablo Vitti   OUT: Ty Marshall Todd Dunivant

There were a lot of calls this off season that Toronto FC needed a major face lift if they expected to compete.  To put it simply TFC need to be in the playoffs if Mo Johnston expects to keep is job.  After seeing the writing on the wall, Trader Mo kept himself busy assembling the pieces of a hopeful championship 2009 campaign. This week has been no exception as we’ve seen Mojo pull the following tricks out of his hat:

  • Pablo Vitti signs on for a one season loan from Independiente.  Vitti had previously spent time at Ukraine’s Chornomorets Odessa
  • Tyrone Marshall dealt to Seattle in a move everyone saw coming a mile away for an undisclosed allocation sum
  • Todd Dunivant dealt to LA, also for allocation money

Vitti answers the call for a new striker, but the position isn’t locked up on depth considering the shaky status of both O’Brian White and Danny Dichio.  With the midfield stacked, that turns attention to the big two man hole between Brennan and Wynne.  TFC have some quality trialsts in training camp, which deffinately could be the answer to the squads shortcomings.

  •  Darren Kenton, defender formerly with Norwich, Southampton and more recently with loan spells at Leeds and Cheltenham.  At 30 he could provide service on more than a temporary basis
  • Gregory Richardson, striker from Joe Public of T&T. Remember the guy that lit it up against the New England (reserves) in CONCACAF? That guy
  • Michael McGlinchey, midfielder from Celtic/Dunfermline.  22 years old, scored against US U20’s and Kiwi born.  It just wouldn’t be a real season without one…
  • Pablo Salinas Manacho, striker from Bolivia with a flare for interesting goal celebrations.  Not much else is known otherwise.

So while it looks like the bulk of trialists on display are aimed at bolstering our offence, I wouldn’t be surpised if more defender’s pop up unless Harmse is being considered a starter since ending last season in good form.
