One Week and Counting!
We’re quickly closing in on the second inaugural season on Toronto FC with only 1 week to go until the massive pilgrimage down to Columbus, Ohio takes place. With an estimated 2300 TFC fans making the trip this is set to be the largest away supporters gathering Major League Soccer has ever seen.
In the meantime our boys are down in Charlston competing in the Carolina Cup challenge. Our first result was a 1-0 loss to the expansion San Jose Earthquake and ex-TFC midfielder Ronnie O’Brien. Our squad looked slugish and could not find a good ryhthm throughout the game. It wasn’t all bad though. If you consider the fact that John Carver had run two practices that same day you’ll understand why we didn’t look top notch. The hard work out regiment is paying off as you can see particularly in the performance of Colin Samuel when beating defenders to the ball. We had a stronger performance against NYRB which ended in a 1-1 draw which unfortunately came at the expense of an injured Julius James. James suffered a seperated shoulder after an altercation with Red Bull striker Juan Pablo Angel which will certainly deem him doubful for the opener in Columbus.
We’ll have a chance to see how TFC fare in their final preseason match against tournament hosts Charlston Battery this evening at 6pm.
