Canada Cup Begins: TFC beat Impact in a hatchet job of a game
Yes, I’m still referring to it as the Canada Cup. The Canadian Champions League just sounds wrong. I don’t like it and I’m sticking with the first name…. annnnnyway…
So after watching last night’s game I have determined that the name “Impact” is referring to the loud *thud* you hear when one of their players hits the deck. Seriously, that game was painful to watch, it was like seeing a team full of USL Scheletto’s out flailing around.
The highlights for me were the back line. Olivier Tebily was a wall. If anybody even got half a step on him, he’d make them fight tooth and nail for that other half. Marco Velez proved his worth once again scoring a goal off of a Robert cross and making some key clearances in his own end.
The lowlights were up front. Dichio went down around half time and looked to be in pain, hopefully its nothing too serious as he’s really silenced his critics as of late (myself included). I finally got to see Cunningham get some real time and he blew it. Not strong on the ball and with no finish, all around bad. Our O doesn’t have the same flare without Guevara. Fortunately our next game will feature a team which is reaching into its bench for depth to the same extent we are.
